"I’ve been picking up these little tile spacers from the streets of Istanbul since 2022. 

Recently one of them appeared in Kadıköy welcoming me, and also recently, one appeared in an industrial zone in Nicosia which is the first time I found one outside Istanbul. They especially kept appearing in moments when I need an answer, a reassurance, a little hope or whatever I needed to keep going. 

I guess I started to think of making a drawing of these around the time when we first started our conversations with Ayşegül Yapar and Gülden Ataman which we ended up putting together the exhibition What’s with not knowing?. Months later I displayed it there for the first time.

It was the year of 2023, a time when unknowns somehow felt even heavier for us. Future was -and still is- quite gloomy, and we were all trying to find something miraculous in a city, a country that keeps slipping away. Since then I still think a lot about finding reference points in the midst of chaos, a sort of north star to look at for guidance."
